Albion College

In Albion, Michigan, there is a private liberal arts college called Albion College. The college was established in 1835, and in 2014, there were roughly 1,500 undergraduates enrolled there.

They compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and NCAA Division III (MIAA). The Britons are the college’s sports teams, and they compete in purple and gold.

The Michigan Territorial Legislature granted a charter for a new seminary to Methodist settlers in Spring Arbor Township on March 23, 1835. Outside of Spring Arbor, construction started in 1837, but the Panic of 1837 put an end to it. The legislature agreed in 1839 to a plea to relocate the seminary to Albion.

Jesse Crowell gave 60 acres (243,000 m2) of property to the newly renamed Wesleyan Seminary, and work on it started in 1841. The initial lectures took place in the nearby Methodist church in 1843. The freshly erected Central Building, which was later restored as the current Robinson Hall in 1907, hosted the first classes in 1844.

The 1857 merger of the 1850-founded Albion Female Collegiate Institute and The Wesleyan Seminary and Female College at Albion resulted in the establishment of Albion College in 1861. The college was given permission by the legislature to award full four-year degrees to both men and women in that same year.

The Michigan Historical Commission installed a sign in 1960 designating the college as a Michigan Historic Site. It says inscribed:

In March 1835, Methodists received a charter from the Territorial Council of Michigan for Spring Arbor Seminary. Later, Jesse Crowell, a prominent Albion pioneer, and donor provided land on which the institution was built in Albion. The foundation for the first structure was constructed in 1841, and the Wesleyan Seminary officially opened its doors in 1843. The institution was given the authority to award degrees in 1861 and was given the name Albion College. Its development as a potent liberal arts college has been aided by support from the Methodist Church, a sizable endowment, and private donors.

Dr. Samuel Dickie, who later served as the college’s president, encouraged the construction of the Albion College Astronomical Observatory in 1883–1844. For the facility’s construction and equipment, Dickie contributed $10,000. The observatory still has its original transit circle, side-real clock, chronograph, and telescope. Classrooms, a bookshop, faculty offices, and the West Michigan Methodist Conference archives have all been located in the structure. It was renovated and converted into the college ethics center in 1984.

About The Scholarship

Applications for this program are accepted by international students. The scholarship allows students to enroll in Postgraduate and Undergraduate programs in any of the subjects offered at Albion College. As of the deadline, interested candidates may submit an application for the scholarship

Academic grants will be given to international students who fulfill or exceed the minimum standards for admission. We consider a student’s complete application, academic record, and the likelihood of success at Albion College when making scholarship decisions. There are additional scholarships available to reward talent in the fine arts; after being accepted, students must submit an audition or portfolio for examination.

Eligibility Requirements

All accepted students are eligible for awards that will pay between 40% and 60% of their costs. These awards are given upon acceptance and are based on the information in the application.
