The American University Global Scholarship

The American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship encourages educational opportunity and access while fostering global diversity. The AU Emerging Global Leader achieves, inspires, and serves with vision by combining the best aspects of AU: academic achievement, leadership development, and global involvement. The AU EGL is committed to bringing about constructive societal and civic change, and they will return home to help underdeveloped and neglected regions there. We cordially encourage you to get to know our illustrious current AU Emerging Global Leader Scholars and recent EGLS graduates.

About The Scholarship

The AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship is intended for bright international students who want to study for a bachelor’s degree in the US and who are committed to bringing about constructive societal change. It is designed for students who would return home to better underdeveloped and underprivileged regions there.

The AU EGL scholarship provides complete tuition, lodging, and board for one overseas student who needs a visa to study in the United States (ideally an F-1 or J-1 student visa). The scholarship does not pay for non-billable items such as required health insurance, books, airfare, and other costs (around US$4,000 annually).

Based on sustained good academic progress, the AU EGL scholarship is extendable for a total of four years of undergraduate study.

Important: For Fall 2023, there will only be one AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship available. Partial merit scholarships may be available to you if you decide to submit another application after being rejected as the 2023 AU EGL recipient. However, in addition to the initial US$4,000 you provided, you will also need to give confirmation of extra funds. Costs are projected to be $73,802 for the academic year 2023–2024.

If any of the following apply to you:

• You are a dual citizen of the US and another nation, a US permanent resident, a US pending permanent resident, or a US citizen.

• You have already started or are currently enrolled in any post-secondary coursework at a different university in your home country or the US.

• You completed your secondary education prior to 2021.

For autumn (August) 2023, AU EGLS applicants must submit a Regular Decision application. Avoid applying Early Decision (ED).

1. International students from diverse and underrepresented socioeconomic and global backgrounds, as well as those who have surmounted several barriers and problems

2. For grades 9 through 12, a minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 4.0 (or being in the top 10% of the graduating class).
