ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Massachusetts Legislature established the Massachusetts High Demand Scholarship Program to promote economic expansion and development. The goal is to promote degree completion in highly sought-after fields that will aid in meeting the Commonwealth’s workforce needs by offering financial aid to students who are enrolled in such programs of study.

Students pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or health professions degree at Massachusetts public institutions are eligible to apply for the Massachusetts High Demand Scholarship for the academic year 2022-2023.

ELIGIBILITY

  • If a student is enrolled in an approved program and satisfies the criteria listed below, they are eligible.
  • Have lived in Massachusetts permanently and lawfully for at least a year prior to the start of the academic year.
  • Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen under Title IV requirements.
  • Has submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Help, the usual form, to apply for financial aid (FAFSA)
  • Enroll in a public institution’s qualified program of study in a field with a declared high demand.
  • Not have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in the past
  • Must show that they have earned and are maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 on coursework taken after high school graduation.

APPROVABLE PROGRAM

Any state-funded undergraduate degree or certificate program that is provided by a qualified institution and that has been classified as a high-demand profession by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development

PARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS

Any qualifying institution in 2022–2023 must be one that satisfies the requirements of Chapter 15A, Section 5, of the Massachusetts General Laws.

PRIZE VALUE

The maximum award amounts are listed below; the Award Procedure, which is listed below, will determine the actual award amounts. Awards under this program for qualified applicants may be used to help pay for tuition, fees, and other associated educational costs, and they will be determined according to the student’s enrollment status and the type of institution as follows: Students in community colleges Full-time enrollment costs $4,000 per year or $2,000 per semester (12 credits or more) Part-time enrollment costs $2,000 per year or $1,000 per semester (6-11 credits) Students at State Universities Full-time enrollment costs $5,500 per year or $2,750 per semester (12 credits or more) Part-time attendance is $2,750 per year or $1,375 per semester (6-11 credits) Massachusetts University students Full-time enrollment is $6,500 per year or $3,250 per semester (12 credits or more) $1,625 each semester or $3,250 annually – Part-time enrollment (6-11 credits)

A four-year institution’s maximum award period is four years (eight semesters), and a community college’s maximum award period is two years (four semesters). At a community college, part-time students may get financial aid for a maximum of eight consecutive semesters; at a four-year college or university, they may receive aid for a maximum of twelve consecutive semesters. If funds remain after all awards for the academic year have been distributed, students may receive an additional payment for summer study of up to $1,000 at a four-year institution or $500 at a community college. Any student enrolled in a four-year or two-year college or university is only eligible to receive a summer award once per three terms (one per academic year).

If the annual appropriation is insufficient to cover the maximum scholarship award for the qualified applicant pool, the Department of Higher Education may reduce the academic year and/or semester awards for this program in line with the award method described below. 3 The Office of Higher

HOW TO APPLY

1. If you do not already have one, create a MASSAid Student Portal account.

2. Finish the MASSAid Student Portal System’s “Grant/Scholarship Online Applications” tab’s High Demand Scholarship application.

3. Include an unofficial transcript with your upload that shows your current major and cumulative GPA. By going to the “My High Demand” tab in the Student Portal and selecting the “Upload College Transcript” button, transcripts can be posted to MASSAid.

If it believes it necessary, OSFA reserves the right to ask an applicant for official transcripts.
