The Knight-Hennessy Scholarship Program -

The private research university Stanford University, sometimes known as Leland Stanford Junior University, is located in Stanford, California. The campus, one of the largest in the nation at 8,180 acres, is home to more than 17,000 students (3,310 hectares). Stanford is one of the top colleges in the world.

Background

Stanford was founded in 1885 by Leland and Jane Stanford in memory of their only child, Leland Stanford Jr., who had died of typhoid fever at the age of 15 the previous year. Leland Stanford, a former senator and governor of California, acquired money as a railroad tycoon. The coeducational, nondenominational institution admitted its first students on October 1, 1891. After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, which severely damaged much of the campus, Stanford University faced financial difficulties once more. Leland Stanford passed away in 1893. In order to build a self-sufficient local economy in what would later be known as Silicon Valley, Frederick Terman, the provost, pushed faculty members and new graduates to launch their own firms following World War II.

The organization is organized around seven institutions on the same campus, comprising three schools with 40 academic departments for undergraduate students and four professional schools that focus on graduate programs in law, medicine, education, and business. The university also serves as home to the Hoover Institution, a think tank for public policy. Students participate in 36 varsity sports at the university, one of two private colleges in the Division I FBS Pac-12 Conference. As of May 26, 2022, Stanford had won 131 NCAA team championships, more than any other university. Beginning in 1994-1995, Stanford also won the NACDA Directors’ Cup for 25 consecutive years. By the year 2021, Stanford students and graduates had won a minimum of 296 Olympic medals, including 150 gold and 79 silver.

About The Scholarship

Knight-Hennessy Scholarship applications are now being accepted at Stanford University in the United States for the academic year 2022. International students are welcome to apply for this program. The scholarship allows students to enroll in graduate-level classes in any academic area Stanford University offers. Interested candidates may apply for the scholarship as of the deadline. The window for submissions is open.

Eligibility Criteria

• A one-time relocation grant is provided to newly enrolled scholars to assist with some of the costs associated with moving to the area and/or obtaining new technology.

• Students can apply for additional funds to support extracurricular activities in their second and third years (e.g., conference travel).

The Funding Was Given By Stanford University

The degree program for which Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) will provide funding is specified in the initial KHS admittance letter. Scholars can apply to KHS for an additional three years of funding if they desire to enroll in a second graduate degree. This additional funding is not guaranteed.

If a scholar is accepted to a degree program lasting longer than three years, such as an MD, PhD, or Stanford dual- or joint-degree program, financing is determined by the graduate degree program’s standard funding commitment. The following types of financial aid are available to Knight-Hennessy scholars throughout each of the first three years of graduate school:

• A scholarship that is used to cover education-related expenses

• A stipend to help with living and tuition expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses)

• A travel reimbursement for one annual round-trip to and from Stanford in economy class
