The White House Internship Program

We appreciate your interest in our internship programs in the President’s Executive Office (EOP). The Biden-Harris Administration is happy to announce that the EOP is now offering paid internship opportunities in several of our offices for the first time in recent memory.

The White House Office, the Vice President’s Office, the Council of Economic Advisers, the Council on Environmental Quality, the Office of Administration, the Office of Management and Budget, the Office of the National Cyber Director, the Office of National Drug Control Policy, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Office of the United States Trade Representative, and more will all be offering internships in the upcoming year.

Program for White House Interns

The White House Internship Program (WHIP) is a public service leadership and development program that offers aspiring leaders the chance to learn important skills while assisting the White House Office’s work and advancing the administration’s priorities.

The White House Internship Program (WHIP) gives interns the chance to work directly with two offices within the EOP: the White House Office (WHO) and the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

In order to assist the President in carrying out his official responsibilities, WHO was founded by presidential order in 1939. The office houses the teams that support the President’s daily operations as well as senior advisors to the President who supervise the formulation and execution of the President’s legislative agenda, official communications, and policy initiatives. The First Lady’s Office is also a part of WHO.

OVP supports the Vice President’s duties as President of the Senate and “second in command” of the Executive branch. The office works with members of the US Congress to advance the administration’s legislative priorities on Capitol Hill. It focuses on a wide variety of domestic, economic, and national security policy problems. OVP also manages all of the correspondence, operations, events, scheduling, and travel for the Vice President and Second Gentleman.

Administration Office

All EOP components are given administrative and business support services by the Office of Administration (OA). These services range from personnel and physical security to counterintelligence, emergency preparedness and enterprise communications, legal support services, information technology support, library and research assistance, facilities management, procurement, design and printing, mail and logistics, and more.

About The White House internship program

The goal of President Biden and Vice President Harris is to create an administration that reflects all of America by giving talented people from all walks of life the chance to serve their country. This dedication will be evident in each and every internship class throughout the EOP. Everyone who is qualified to apply and shows interest is urged to do so.

Eligibility

  • Participants must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years old before the program starts in order to take part in an internship program at the EOP. Added eligibility standards will differ depending on the office.
  • At the White House complex in Washington, DC, all internships will be offered in person. Please be aware that no housing nor assistance with moving will be given.
  • Prior to the start of the program, all interns must declare their COVID-19 immunization status and follow any COVID-19 protocols established by the White House, including but not limited to testing, masking, and/or social distancing.
  • The Standard Form (SF) 86 must be filled out by applicants who advance to the application’s final stage in order to establish whether they meet security eligibility standards. The SF-86 asks for details on an applicant’s connections to foreign governments, criminal record, financial obligations, tax compliance, and former drug usage, among other things (including marijuana, regardless of whether the marijuana use was permitted under state law).
  • At the EOP, all internship programs accommodate requests for academic credit. Although we can not set up academic credit on your behalf, if your academic institution runs a program for such credit, we can work with you and your university to make accommodations.

Additional Information

All internships at the EOP will provide a stipend of $375 per week for part-time participation and $750 per week for full-time involvement (minimum of 35 hours per week) (15 – 34 hours per week). For additional information on full-time and part-time positions, see the specifics from each office below. Please be aware that EOP interns are not permitted to accept any additional outside support for their participation in any internship program from a third-party organization.
